Arsenal are reportedly looking to sign Burney stopper Tom Heaton as a competition for current number one Bernd Leno. The Gunners are currently short of quality in the goalkeeping position after the departure of Czech Republic stopper PetrCech.
It is understood that Unai Emery wants a quality stopper that can provide competition for Leno. Leno was able to take the position as the first choice goalkeeper last season but has not fully convinced.
Tom Heaton is seen as a player that can provide challenge for the German stopper and one that would fit into the budget of the Gunners. Arsenal have already stretched their resources this season and are looking for a bargain stopper.
However the Gunners would face competition from fellow Premier League outfit Aston Villa. The West Midlands club are interested in the 30 year old stopper and can offer him first team football which could appeal to the player.
Aston Villa Dean Smith is a huge fan of Heaton and wants the player to take the number one position ahead of the new season. Heaton is regarded as a quality stopper but suffered a long term injury which saw Nick Pope and Joe Hart dislodge him from the number one position at Burnley.
The England international is open to a move away from the club and has told his representatives to begin negotiations with both clubs in lieu of a move away from the club. From the looks of things, it is a two horse race for the goalkeeper and it remains to be seen which club would be able to secure his signature.
