  8. totally agree. Pirlo should be the best player of the 2006 World Cup. he was part of the game almost every single minute and even when he didn’t score, he assisted almost all the goals the Italy won throughout the tournament. Pirlo was the unsung HERO of the Italy team in 2006.

I still remember Grosso’s celebration in the Semi against Germany..he waves his hands as if saying NO…we’re not going home just yet..priceless, also Bufon’s superhuman save in the final from Zidane’s header…wow that is why he is a world class keeper..2006 Italy’s top players in their prime.

  21. The Germany game was amazing and brought chills down my spine. The suspense and drama in the France game was also a memorable moment in time. Thanks for posting this. I can’t say this brought back memories because those memories have been with me the past 4 years. I hope the Azzuri makes more memories for the next 4 years. Italia 2010!!

  22. @futbol1031. After 4 years Zidane fans are still crying about trash talking on the futball field? You and I know that has been always part of the game in ANY sport. Get inside your opponents head and throw them off their game. Zidane was just weak minded to do a dispicable act like he did during the BIGGEST GAME IN THE WORLD. I’ll give you Zidane having his way with Italia’s defence. Did he score when it counted besides the weak penalty kick France was rewarded? Materazzi finished his header.

  25. What kind of man is Marco Materazzi? He scores a goal early in the 1st half and thanks the good lord above. However, in the weaning moments of the game he makes a derogatory, racist comment about Zidane’s sister, only because ‘Zizou’ completely dismembered the Azzuri defense throughout the final? I guess, the past is the past, congrats Italia. But, let it be known, this next year’s World Cup in RSA, will not be quite as triumphant!
